Free Sewage Alert Service for local beaches
Surfers Against Sewage has launched a new Sewage Alert Service. It is the first and only service to inform you, in real time, when untreated human sewage and wastewater is being discharged at local beaches. You can then make an informed decision about how, when and where you use the sea.
Untreated sewage and wastewater frequently discharge from combined sewer overflows (CSOs) sometimes significantly reducing water quality.
When this reaches dangerous levels, Surfers Against Sewage is notified by participating water companies and issues a real-time sewage alert so surfers and other beach users can avoid potentially harmful pollution.
Alerts include Woolacombe, Saunton and other beaches in the area
The service is free and available as an APP, SMS service or web-based map

Meet ‘Thruster’ inventor Simon Anderson – September 15th
One of the most influential surfer-shapers in the history of surfing, Simon Anderson, will be visiting the Museum of British Surfing at Caen Street car park in Braunton on Sunday September 15th between 2pm and 4pm.
When the Australian developed his three-fin ‘Thruster’ design over 1980 & ’81 he changed the face of surfing forever – creating a design that has dominated wave riding for the last 30 years, and remains the standard competition board today.

Thanks to our friends at Tiki in Braunton, Simon will be spending the afternoon at the surfing museum so you can drop in and have a chat with a true living legend – if you have one of his original Thrusters you can bring it along for him to check out, or just hang out and talk about board design and surfing.
Check Simon Anderson’s story in this video. Don’t miss out on this awesome opportunity!
