Save Braunton Library Campaign Update and Next Steps #savebrauntonlibrary

SAVE LIBRARYDear friends,

It was truly inspiring to see over 800 people sign the Save Braunton Library petition at the Braunton Rotary Fair on Monday. This was on top of the 400 signatures gathered by school children. A big thank you to all the volunteers who have put up posters, shared the campaign and collected names.

It was awesome to then have so many people from Braunton, Woolacombe, Croyde, Georgeham, West Down and other surrounding areas come to the Public Meeting this week.

We stood together and let it be known that we do not want our community to be hollowed out. Our community deeply matters to us. Our children matter. The older members of our community matter. Individuals and families matter. The library is a lifeline for people of all ages and we will not stand by and watch it disappear.

We can report back from the Public Meeting that Councillor Roger Croad, who is responsible for the future of our library, made a personal commitment to look at the classification of Braunton Library.  This is an urgent first step and we await his assessment.

Braunton Library is wrongly categorised as “small and less-well used” and we need this changed so that we can have a fair consultation that reflects the size and use of the library and we can then work together to build a Devon centre model.

As a community we can now do two things:

  1. It is time to fill in the consultation form. We have heard back from you that the form is confusing. Do not let this stop you. Let’s make our voice heard in the formal consultation process. Go to the Tough Choices website (just click the link). If possible please help friends, neighbours and your networks to do this too.
  2. We must build the campaign. Put up posters (click the link to download),  write to your MP, your councillors, the media, and use social media to SAVE BRAUNTON LIBRARY. Councillor Roger Croad is looking at Braunton right now. Let him know that we are waiting for his answer.

Thank you to all of you who are working on this campaign. We must act now or Braunton library could be closed within a year due to these cruel cuts.

SAVE BRAUNTON LIBRARY!!!
